Fungi

Fungi

This is a photograph I took of some very interesting capped mushrooms or fungi on a tree. It was either a poplar or a birch tree. It has interesting shapes and textures but is not edible.

I can’t help it. I wanted to call this photograph “Fun Guy.” Laughter is the best medicine…

Anyway, according to Wikipedia, Hoof Fungus or “Fomes fomentarius is a species of fungal plant pathogen found in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. The species produces very large polypore fruit bodies which are shaped like a horse’s hoof and vary in colour from a silvery grey to almost black, though they are normally brown.”

Coiled

Mikawoz Coiled

Coiled

I do not particularly like snakes but I do find them interesting and so that is why I took its photograph. This one is coiled up onto itself.

I do not know even what kind of snake it is. It was taken at the Phoenix Zoo in Arizona.

According to National Geographic, “There are more than 3,000 species of snakes on the planet and they’re found everywhere except in Antarctica, Iceland, Ireland, Greenland, and New Zealand. About 600 species are venomous, and only about 200—seven percent—are able to kill or significantly wound a human.”

According to Wikipedia, “The golden eagle is one of the best-known birds of prey in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the most widely distributed species of eagle. Like all eagles, it belongs to the family Accipitridae. These birds are dark brown, with lighter golden-brown plumage on their napes.”

Elk Calf

Elk Calf

Elk babies are called calves and weigh around 31 to 35 lbs. (14 to 16 kg) when they are born. After just 20 minutes, a calf can stand on its own.

According to Wikipedia, “The elk or wapiti (Cervus canadensis) is one of the largest species within the deer family, Cervidae, and one of the largest terrestrial mammals in North America and Northeast Asia.”

Lion’s Feet

Lion’s Feet

I love close-ups of wildlife. These are lion’s feet. They are so incredible with the foot padding and the beautiful fur around it. “The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the family Felidae; it is a muscular, deep-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck and round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail.”
