Psychedelic Hometown

Psychedelic Hometown – Drawing and Digital Art by Mary Mikawoz – Click on image or link to see the bigger picture.

I started off drawing with India Ink and nib pens on paper. I was in a zen state of mood. The shapes, rhythms and swirls just flowed. I later took the drawing and put into the computer where I added colours.

The colours represent my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. Winnipeg is the closest city to the geographical centre of North America. From North to South and West to East, it is in the middle of the continent. It is the heartbeat of the land mass. There are three sets of representations – colours of the City of Winnipeg, the Fort Garry Horse Regiment of the Winnie the Bear fame and also the CFL Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

With my art, I am often in a zen-type of mood and with my photography, I feel as if I am inspired by God or the Universe to capture these moments in time.

Autumn Bronze

Mikawoz Autumn Bronze

Autumn Bronze

The province of Manitoba is known for having four distinct seasons although some are longer than others. This is a photograph I took in autumn off the shores of Lake Winnipeg. The bronze, yellow and orange leaves were softly falling to the ground in a musical rhythm of blissful joy. It was an incredible experience with the beautiful blue sky in the background.

Wrinkles in Time

Mikawoz Wrinkles in Time

Wrinkles In Time

The water in the Bahama Islands has created these “Wrinkles in Time.” I took a number of photographs of these sand ridges. It is as if they are individual finger prints in the memory of time and sand. It was hard to find places were people had not stood and ruined the individual prints. I like the texture and flow. It is like musical rhythm.
