On the Range
Here is a photograph I took of an abandoned old farm house out on the range. It is dramatic with the clouds in the West. It is as if it is brooding with emotion. I also enjoy the perspective of the house in the photograph as a whole.

Hawk on Post
Whether you are going north, south, east or west in the prairies, you will see an hawk on a post of a farmer’s field. It is actually a hard picture to get because as you slow down in your car, the hawk takes off.
Interesting information from Wikipedia include, “Hawks, like most birds, are tetrachromats having four types of colour receptors in the eye. These give hawks the ability to perceive not only the visible range but also ultraviolet light. Other adaptations allow for the detection of polarized light or magnetic fields.”

I See You
What can I say? These are Hereford cattle. I like the way the cows are looking back at me. They seemed to be as intrigued with me as I am of them. I think the Hereford is a beautiful cattle. As they nibble the grasses and enjoy being on the open range, they seem to be enjoying themselves. I like the composition of three against the hilly background.

Chocolate for a Woman’s Spirit
Book: “Chocolate for a Woman’s Spirit: 77 Stories of Inspiration to Life Your Heart and Soothe Your Soul” by Kay Allenbaugh
Book Review by Mary Mikawoz (Author of “Northern Lake Adventures: The Encounter”)
This book is very similar to the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series. The difference is that the stories are all written by women for women. I am not saying a man could not or would not appreciate the stories, however, they focus around women’s issues.
I find the stories are helpful in that they provide insights into women’s lives. The book carries a wide range of stories, some of them quite heartfelt. Other stories are just average.
I would recommend reading this book if you are looking for some inspiring or uplifting stories. It would be a nice present for a good friend. This book is part of a series of contributed stories and so there other “chocolate” books in the series.

Pacific Jellyfish
This is a photo of Pacific Sea Nettle Jellyfish. They have been roaming the seas for anywhere from 500 to 700 million years. They move elegantly with their gelatinous umbrella-shaped bell bodies and flowing tentacles. They dance as if to music and I was quite mesmerized by them. They range in size from 1 millimeter to 2 meters in size for their bodies. Their nerve net system is in their epidermis. Some jellyfish are light-sensitive through something called ocelli while some jellyfish have up to 24 eyes, 2 of which can see colour. As you can see, there is quite a range. They also have a life-cycle going from polyps to the medusa stage.
