Pump It Up
I don’t know what it is about old-fashioned water hand pumps, but I really, really like them. I remember trying (playing) with them when I was a little kid. It was fun to see that if you worked at it really hard, it would produce water (results).
From the MotherEarthNews website, “The pump principle has changed little since its inception, whether for the piston pump invented in 275 BC by Ctesibius, or the rope pump invented in China during the 1st century BC. Hand pumps were still commonly used in the countryside of the United States and Europe in the 19th century.”

Blocked
I took this photograph of an old, derelict house that has had its window blocked by overgrown trees and plants. I have always been amazed how quickly nature overtakes what man has built once it has been abandoned. It is a testament to the strength, power and resiliency of Mother Earth.

Here is a photograph I took of an abandoned old farm house out on the range. It is dramatic with the clouds in the West. It is as if it is brooding with emotion. I also enjoy the perspective of the house in the photograph as a whole.

Red Lantern – click image to see entire photograph
I like the composition of the photograph I took with the red lantern based the way it is. It is a memory of by-gone day when lanterns were the main source of light in homes.

The house is abandoned and you can see from the open window right through the house to the open door.
It is weathered and worn while nature in its greenery has started to grow back and recapture life in the prairies. In fact, I think clover has started to grow in the recesses of the wood.

Here is an image of an old house that is no longer in use and once upon a time saw better times. This is a relic from just north of Pinedock, Manitoba. There is overgrowth up and around this old home.
