Grand Beach

Grand Beach – Photography by Mary Mikawoz

For once, the waters and the sand are empty of people. The summer season is essentially over and only a few brave souls make it out onto Grand Beach. This photograph has a richness of colours as there are three stripes of colours crossing the horizon from the sky, the lake and the sand. I took my chances and waded through the water to see if it was warm or cold. It was a tinge warm but already turning cold.

This beach is fantastic and a great place to walk on the boardwalk. Normally, people are having fun by sunning themselves, playing frisbee or football, catch in the water or volleyball on the sand.

CBC reported, “Grand Beach (is) less than an hour from Winnipeg. Grand Beach has been called one of Canada’s best beaches. The beach has three kilometres of fine, white sand backed by 12-metre sand dunes on the edge of the town of Grand Marais in Grand Beach Provincial Park.”

With my art, I am often in a zen-type of mood and with my photography, I feel as if I am inspired by God or the Universe to capture these moments in time.

Silent Moon Over Water

Silent Moon Over Water – Photography by Mary Mikawoz

I took this beautiful evening photograph just as the sun was setting and the moon was rising over the water. The Hunter’s Moon is magnificent leaving a trail of its light on the waves of the water. Twinkling in the water are coloured rivulets of pink reflections just past the branches.

It brings me much joy to see the moon rising beyond the horizon each time I see it.

Sun Rays in Darkness

Mikawoz Sun Rays in Darkness

Sun Rays In Darkness

This is how I envision sunlight rays coming through nonstop from the sun during the night. It continues on shining down on Earth.

This is an abstract artwork made with pen and paper and photo effects.

According to Wikipedia, “Sunlight is a portion of the electromagnetic radiation given off by the Sun, in particular infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light. On Earth, sunlight is filtered through Earth’s atmosphere, and is obvious as daylight when the Sun is above the horizon. When the direct solar radiation is not blocked by clouds, it is experienced as sunshine, a combination of bright light and radiant heat. When it is blocked by clouds or reflects off other objects, it is experienced as diffused light.”

Balcony Love

Balcony Love

Here is a silhouette of a couple in love enjoying the sunset in Waikiki part of Honolulu, on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. They are on their balcony seeing the last remnants of the night sky turn a beautiful orange and yellow hue into the night sky as the sun disappears behind the horizon.

Hawaiian Sunset

This is a photo I took in Waikiki, Hawaii while on a sunset cruise.  Hawaii is interesting because the highs and lows in temperature for the day and night are very similar within a few degrees each day most of the year.  It was really a “Groundhog Day” out there.  Plus, I don’t think I have seen a quicker sunset in my life.  It was there one minute and shortly afterwards, it was down.  I chose this image today because of the cold weather we have been having so I can always dream and remember.

Please note a couple of sailboats on the horizon in the center image and the plane just over the land on the right hand side of the photo.
