Beaver Dam – Photography and Digital Work by Mary Mikawoz
Beaver Dam
The basis of this is a photograph I took at Elk Island National Park near Edmonton, Alberta. They have a number of hikes and walkways. This is the walkway going through the swamp area. There was this finely built architectural featured called a beaver dam on the left-hand side of the swamp.
I once saw and was in a replica beaver dam at the Manitoba Children’s Museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was absolutely fascinating how the beavers build their homes.

While travelling in France, we stayed with friends in the French countryside just outside of Paris. It was a beautiful cottage home. I enjoyed wandering the grounds exploring the gardens and photographing this water pomp or Pompe à Eau.
I have put a sepia colour to indicate that it is from an older time and generation.

Red Lantern – click image to see entire photograph
I like the composition of the photograph I took with the red lantern based the way it is. It is a memory of by-gone day when lanterns were the main source of light in homes.

The house is abandoned and you can see from the open window right through the house to the open door.
It is weathered and worn while nature in its greenery has started to grow back and recapture life in the prairies. In fact, I think clover has started to grow in the recesses of the wood.

Here is an image of an old house that is no longer in use and once upon a time saw better times. This is a relic from just north of Pinedock, Manitoba. There is overgrowth up and around this old home.

This cactus is quite old and has become home to many birds as evidenced by all the holes in it. The dramatic streaks in the sky are beautiful too. This was taken in the deserts near Mesa, Arizona, USA.
According to Wikipedia, “The saguaro is a tree-like cactus species in the monotypic genus Carnegiea, which can grow to be over 40 feet tall…The saguaro blossom is the state wildflower of Arizona.”

While travelling in the East Coast, I took this landscape image of these homes by a bay near the ocean. I am not sure now if It was the province of New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, Canada.
