I Am Surrounded – Photography by Mary Mikawoz – Click image to see the bigger picture.
Yup, you see me. I am the window looking outwards or perhaps, you are looking inside of me. I am surrounded by ivy growing all around me. To the North, South, East and West of my centre, are wonderful plants growing up the brick walls.
With my art, I am often in a zen-type of mood and with my photography, I feel as if I am inspired by God or the Universe to capture these moments in time.

Powerful Determination – Photography by Mary Mikawoz – Click image to see the bigger picture.
Now this is a photograph of powerful determination if I did see one. The green plant is thriving and continuing upwards and around to grow. Nothing is in its path is getting in its way as it weaves and turns to make a new route around windows, balconies and corners.
Up, up, up the walls of the building, the ivy grows in dogged persistence of its goal of surviving and in a state of being extant. We, as human beings, are often the same as we pursue our goals in life.
The ivy clings to life on the walls but it is smart enough to use tools and techniques at its disposal to grow.
With my art, I am often in a zen-type of mood and with my photography, I feel as if I am inspired by God or the Universe to capture these moments in time.

This is the kind of luscious forest growth I like. The older trees have character, texture and colour while the new plant life is coming up around them to live, grow and prosper.
I like the symmetry of this photograph I took. Although it is kind of off the center aspect ratio, there is balance as the trees and plants offset one another.
This is an image from the West Coast in Vancouver, British Columbia where the forests have incredible dimensions. They are a lush green in sight and have a musky type of smell in the undergrowth of the forests.
According to the Vancouver website, “Vancouver has at least 30 different kinds of street trees, of all shapes and sizes, ranging from giant sequoiadendron, elm, maple, chestnut, oak and liriodendron to robinia, ash, hawthorn, birch, linden, beech and hornbeam.”

This is a close-up photograph I took of a root growing by the water’s edge. The amazing thing about it is that it is either surrounded by rocks or water and somehow it has reached into the ground and continues to grow. It is determined and ambitious. It chooses to live. I like growth and determination.

Way up in the Rocky Mountains, there are hardy and beautiful yellow flowers growing out of rock. They are determined and strong to grow out of the sides of mountains.
I have to give them credit for being so tenacious and having a “Never Give Up” Attitude. You have to be in the mountains at the right time of year for them to be blooming.

Growth After – Drawing & Digital Art by Mary Mikawoz Click on image or link to see entire creation.
Growth After
I was reading a book or listening to an audiobook. I forget now but the purpose of the drawing is to indicate that when we grow, we develop our minds and the fruits or in this case, flowers or a garden, begin to grow. It can be growth mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually.
I have put a person meditating and coming to some realizations and therefore is producing amazing thought patterns which manifest in reality. She is vibrant and beautiful. I have included a rainbow of colours to illustrate the fullness of her/our abilities.

This is a photograph I took near Little Deer in Manitoba, Canada. It is showing the contrast between trees that are broken down, separated and decaying. However, it also shows that life anew is happening with regrowth and new life. It is showing the verdant life form. It is like the cycles of life; of death and rebirth. It continues in nature’s pattern and way.

This is my abstract interpretation of trois oeufs or three eggs. Originally, the picture was drawn with pen and then added to with India Ink. I then added colour to it. Symbolically, eggs represent many things to many cultures including birth and fertility. I like the potential that eggs represent and the ability to grow into something bigger and better.

These are beautiful birch trees found in the forests of Elk Island Provincial Park near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
According to Wikipedia, “Birches have spiritual importance in several religions, both modern and historical. In Celtic cultures, the birch symbolizes growth, renewal, stability, initiation, and adaptability because it is highly adaptive and able to sustain harsh conditions with casual indifference.”

Here is an image of an old house that is no longer in use and once upon a time saw better times. This is a relic from just north of Pinedock, Manitoba. There is overgrowth up and around this old home.
