This boulder normally would be under water but the water levels in the lake were so low that it not only was amongst the lowest levels in history but the surrounding forests were on fire nearby. This is off of Matheson Island that you can only reach by boat or taking your car over a ferry boat.  

I love the way the boulder has a unique shape. I love the way a pool of water has surrounded the rock. Together the shape of the rock and the offsetting pool of water somehow complement each other in the sand.

With my art, I am often in a zen-type of mood and with my photography, I feel as if I am inspired by God or the Universe to capture these moments in time.

This is Fire Hall Number 15 located on Osborne Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I like the way the clouds are dramatic and so interesting drawing your eye back into the fire hall as a centrepiece. I thought it was more effective as a black and white photograph. 

According to the City of Winnipeg website, “This 1913-built stone and brick fire hall is one of more than a dozen built by the City of Winnipeg based on a set of standard plans developed in 1904…The solid brick Osborne Street Fire Hall’s rests on a rubble-stone foundation and its design includes rusticated stone cladding on the ground floor, a two-storey front section with an oriel window on the second floor and a one-storey stable at the rear.” 

Further, “Scottish born and trained brothers A.R. and W.N. Melville were responsible for the 1904 standard plans and for overseeing the construction of this hall. They were an influential partnership that began in the City around 1900 and lasted until just before World War I. They were responsible for the design of 10 fire halls and many fine local buildings.”

Book: “The Big Book of Angel Tarot: The Essential Guide to Symbols, Spreads and Accurate Readings” by Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine

Book Review by Mary Mikawoz

This book is compendium of information that goes along with the Angel Tarot Card Deck. The beginning of the book, reviews the history of tarot and how this deck compares to the traditional Rider-Waite deck. These cards are positive in nature while still dealing with events in a person’s life that may be perceived as negative or difficult to deal with. For this reason, the cards do not have a reverse meaning. If the cards are upside down, you simply put them the right direction and read the reading based on what has been written symbolically, according to the picture itself and based on both angel numbers and astrology.

The Major Arcana is now the Dreamer’s Journey. You follow him/her as they progress through life until you reach the World along with Archangel Michael. Each Major Arcana card has an Archangel attached to it which gives you further information as to how the card works in the spread or reading.

The Minor Arcana has pip cards which are the numbered cards and the court cards which include the Page, the Knight, The Queen and the King. The Ace starts off each suit. The suits have been changed to Fire, Water, Air and Earth.

The Fire has dragons and wands in it, Water has cups in it plus merpeople, Air has unicorns in it (swords in previous tarot decks) and Earth has fairies and gold coins in it.

I studied this book by having physically organized my cards according to the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana in the order they are presented in the book. Then it took time, however, I studied the card, then read the reading, reflected on the card some more and paused to think about it all. Then, I proceeded to the next card. In time, the whole deck and book were finished.

My head is now full of imagery, stories and symbolism. It is an appropriate book to have as a reference guide to go along with the Angel Tarot Cards. The little guide book that comes with the deck are good for basic information and then this big book gives you far more detail. This deck obviously took into consideration a lot of factors.

Morphology – Abstract Painting by Mary Mikawoz

Morphology

This is an Abstract Acrylic painting of mine that represents “Morphing.” If I look at it from a Buddhist point of view, it represents the idea of suffering with The Four Noble Truths and how it may be dealt with, in terms of the Eightfold Noble Paths. If I look at it from a point of view of Hinduism it reminds me of Maya and how it may represent destruction as a necessary component of creation and an ever continuing change or re-creation. From a Christian point of view, it reminds me of the Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride. From a Nature and Earth perspective, it reminds me of the forces of nature everything from a raging forest fire, to a tornado, to a hurricane, to a tsunami, to flood waters to a blizzard forming in a winter’s storm and all powerful forces in between. From an Imaginary or Fantasy point of view, it can be visualized as a Sea Monster streaming through mighty white waters or an evil Dragon flying through the aethers. I hope you enjoy the painting and find positive meaning in it. To me, the filaments of green represent the beginnings of “forgiveness” and potential change in all respects and meanings.
