Prairie Barn and Sky – Photography by Mary Mikawoz – Click on image or link to see the bigger picture.
It was a beautiful summer day when the heavens were opening up as they crossed the prairies. I have adored this barn as it seems to be perfection to me. I also love the perplexity in the contrast of the dark blue clouds versus the white fluffy clouds. They seem to be combining into what might be a great prairie storm coming in its midst. I love that you can see the direction of the weather pattern as it crosses the fields.

Four to Score – Photography by Mary Mikawoz – Click on image or link to see the bigger picture.
These are gophers at Assiniboine Park enjoying their wide range of trenches in the fields and trees. I caught these gophers uniquely looking at me from various angles and locations “Four to Score” because if all 4 are female and have pups, there will be approximately be a score or twenty of them as the average number of fur babies are 5 per litter.
I hope you like the arrangement and appreciate that I took this photograph with my phone. sIt was difficult to capture all 4 of them in one photograph as they were always scurrying around.

Today is a special day in that it is my son’s birthday. I have chosen this photograph of two bison as it represents the Mom who is nearby whereas her son is exploring the world around him. It is representative of me and my son. He is, in fact, a fully grown and a good man but I will always be his Mom.
Happy Birthday to my son Kyle!

I took this close-up photograph of a bison. He is looking intently back at me. I thought the bison was covered in regular grasses from manoeuvring his head in the fields and that is sort of true. On closer examination, there are burrs which stick onto the body, fur and clothes.
I remember as a little girl running through a relative’s farm fields and being so intrigued by these spikey flowery-things only to be horrified when I touched them and they stuck into my fingers and would not let go. I thought “What are these cruel things that look so fascinating and interesting doing?” The thistle hung on and the more I tried to make it come off, the more it stuck into my skin.
In this picture, the head of the bison has burrs on it, as well as on its sides. The bisons do sometimes roll around on the ground and get covered in this way. As my husband would say, “It is a Beast of Burr-den.”

Usually beehives are made of wood but in this case, these beehives were made of a blue plastic shaped into a dome. I took this photograph near Stonewall in the Interlake area of Manitoba. I kept the blue colour to emphasize how unique and outstanding they are in the fields they pollinate.
According to Wikipedia, “Bees feed on nectar and pollen, the former primarily as an energy source and the latter primarily for protein and other nutrients.”

On a dark, gloomy day I came across an old water pump beside an old relic of a building. It is still there despite having been abandoned a long time ago. I found it while driving in the Interlake Region of Manitoba, Canada.
