Canada Goose Fountain

Canada Goose Fountain

I like the Canada Geese playing and frolicking in front of the fountain. I have made it black and white to make it more interesting. This picture was taken only a few weeks ago but the fountain has been already closed down due to dropping temperatures and because of the recent snow already.

There were still Canada geese at the Duck Pond in Assiniboine Park yesterday when I went for my walk. I do not know why the few stragglers have not flown south for the winter. They should be going soon.

Fountain and Ducks

Fountain And Ducks

I actually took this photo a decade ago. The lush green algae has covered the pond which affectionately is known as the skating pond in winter time at Assiniboine Park, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is technically called the Riley Family Duck Pond and is situated close to the Pavilion and also the Qualico Family Centre.

Rocks Amongst Greenery

This was taken at the Duck Pond in St. Vital Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The boulders are a great place to take family pictures at. There is bird home in the background up on a stilt. it was particularly green with algae that year.

According to Wikipedia, “St. Vital Park is a 100 acres park in southern Winnipeg, Manitoba, located on a bend of the Red River.”

Mama and Ducklings

Mama And Ducklings

I like this image of the Mama Duck and her little wee ducklings. They are in a algae covered pond at St. Vital Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I am not sure why but that spring there was a lot of green algae in the pond.

Hide and Seek

Hide And Seek

Yes, these pink flamingos are playing “hide and seek.” It is nice to see that animals and birds play games just like humans. Ok, I am kidding. It does look like one could be counting with the help of the duck and the others are hiding. Seriously though, they are amazing how they can crank their necks like that. Plus, did you know they process their foods in their mouths upside-down? Interesting! Love their rose colouring against the dark background.

Baby Merganser

I had a hard time capturing this photo and some others similar to it because ducks are mobile, constantly moving by swimming, ducking into the water and/or flying.  This is a baby merganser just developing its changing colours and feathers.  This is one of many species of birds that live near Lake Winnipeg which is the 10th largest freshwater lake in the world. The mergansers are fish-eating ducks.
