My My My

My My My – Photography by Mary Mikawoz

My, My, My – What do we have here? This is a deer who is checking me out as I check them out.

He/she is peaking his/her head out of the foliage while I try to move in for a close-up. God’s fauna are incredible. They are so elegant and classic. I think animals and wildlife need to be treated better by humanity.

I can only think of all the animals who were killed during the fires in BC this summer and then the flooding that followed soon afterwards. My heart goes out to all of God’s creatures.

With my art, I am often in a zen-type of mood and with my photography, I feel as if I am inspired by God or the Universe to capture these moments in time.

Still Growing

Still Growing

This is a close-up photograph I took of a root growing by the water’s edge. The amazing thing about it is that it is either surrounded by rocks or water and somehow it has reached into the ground and continues to grow. It is determined and ambitious. It chooses to live. I like growth and determination.

Anthurium

Anthurium

Interesting Internet Fact about Anthuriums – “The Colorful Heart-Shape is Not A Flower. Though it looks like a waxy bloom, it is actually a spathe, or shield-like leaf. Its function is to protect the spadix, which contains several tiny flowers when in bloom. The spathe can come in many colors, such as pink, orange and white.” These ones are red.

Cracked Open

Here is a wonderful parrot who has just cracked open a nut. According to the Internet, “Hailing from South America, the beautiful blue-and-gold Macaw presents a bold mix of bright blue and yellow feathers…Moreover, it’s green forehead offers beautiful contrast to its blue and yellow body.” They are intelligent.

Columbia Icefield

Columbian Icefield

Columbia Icefield

My husband and I have been to the Columbia Icefield many times through the years. The first time was back in 1984 and it has receded a lot since the original time. Back then, we were using film cameras. This is image, however, is more recent. I got off the bus tour that goes up and took an image looking far back towards the height and start of the glacier.

According to Wikipedia, “The Athabasca Glacier is one of the six principal ‘toes’ of the Columbia Icefield, located in the Canadian Rockies. The glacier currently loses depth at a rate of about 5 metres per year and has receded more than 1.5 km and lost over half of its volume in the past 125 years.”

Crocodile

This is a very close-up of a crocodile. It is very scary looking especially under the glowing lights. “Crocodiles (subfamily Crocodylinae) or true crocodiles are large semiaquatic reptiles that live throughout the tropics in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia.” Wikipedia

I love to see animals close-up. This is a giraffe’s face and head. I think his spots are ever so nice. This was taken at the Greater Vancouver Zoo in Aldergrove BC.

Sleeping Cheetah

Here is a close-up of a sleeping cheetah. Isn’t he marvellous? He looks so serene and peaceful. Doesn’t he remind you of a domestic cat the way he sleeps?

Lion’s Feet

Lion’s Feet

I love close-ups of wildlife. These are lion’s feet. They are so incredible with the foot padding and the beautiful fur around it. “The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the family Felidae; it is a muscular, deep-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck and round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail.”

Close-Up

This is a photo I took of a close-up of a leopard’s head. He is magnificent – isn’t he? The leopard is one of the five extant species in the genus Panthera, a member of the Felidae. The leopard occurs in a wide range in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia.
