Old Timers

Old Timers

There are actually two tortoises. There is another one behind the front one. This picture was taken at the Honolulu Zoo in Hawaii.

According to the SoftSchools.com, “Turtles and tortoises are closely related. They are both reptiles from the same family (Testudines or Chelonian). The main difference between the two is that turtle is the name given to water-dwellers and tortoise is the name given to land-dwellers.”

Further they say, “Their life span is longer than that of the turtle with an average of 80-150 years and a maximum of 188 years.”

Green and Yellow Striped

Green And Yellow Striped

This is a green and yellow striped snake wound up and twisted onto itself. It was taken at the Phoenix Zoo in Arizona, USA. It is interesting how most of its body is coiled onto itself but that its tail dangles below.

Keen Sense

Keen Sense

This beautiful and incredible mammal is reposing and relaxing on the green grass along some boulders. It was taken at the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

According to the Internet,”Polar bears have a keen sense of smell, which they use to find prey. A polar bear can sniff out a seal on the ice 20 miles (32 kilometers) away, and can smell a seal’s breathing hole in the ice more than half a mile away, according to the National Zoo.”

Reposing Tiger

Reposing Tiger

This tiger is reposing – enjoying his time in his loft at the zoo. I believe he is an Amur tiger from the Russian Far East. He looks deep in thought. The picture is nicely framed by some trees.
