Tree Goddess

Tree Goddess

I drew the basic drawing by listening to a guided visualization. I saw this nude woman as being part of nature and being an essential component of this wonderful growing tree. She is in essence a Tree Goddess.

She is so much more than stillness and is about movement and dance. I like the symmetry and flow of the lines. She is about accepting your body as it is – whether big or small and whether tall or short – it is perfectly fine and divinely created. She is enveloped as part of the tree and yet she is separate in form and essence. Your body is, after all, your sanctuary for your soul.

I love the vibrancy of the colours. I love the way there is integrity and connection to the environment.

ET Mosaic

ET Mosaic – Drawing & Digital Art by Mary Mikawoz

ET Mosaic

I was hesitant in putting up this drawing and abstract art piece, but if you read what I have to say until the end, I would appreciate it.

I was in another zen type of contemplative mood. This image just started to come out of me and, if I did not know better, it is an Extraterrestrial or ET. I put in a lot of lines in a mosaic format or stained glass type of effect, kind of like a web or network.

I do not know if there are aliens, however, with a Universe that is humongous and according to NASA, with the Hubble Space Telescope and other observatories making calculations and observations, “This led to an estimate that the observable universe contained about 200 billion galaxies.”

The Milky Way, which is our galaxy, is also enormous. According also to NASA, “Our best estimates tell us that the Milky Way is made up of approximately 100 billion stars.”

Also, according to NASA and expanding upon their information, “A rough estimate from this survey would point to the existence of more than 10 billion terrestrial planets across our galaxy. The results were published in the Jan. 12, 2012, issue of the British science journal Nature.”

Having said all that, I think we are rather egotistical and geocentric of us to believe we are the only intelligent or sentient life form out here in the Universe.

Making Sense

“Making Sense of Mindfulness: Five Principles to Integrate Mindfulness Practice Into Your Daily Life”

Book: “Making Sense of Mindfulness: Five Principles to Integrate Mindfulness Practice Into Your Daily Life.” Keith Macpherson, Morgan James Publishing, 2018.

Book Review by Mary Mikawoz

Book Available Now.

I knew I was meant to read this book when I received it in the mail and lo and behold there was the postage reading in an angelic number. It was meant for this book to fall into my hands. It was destiny at its best. I definitely noticed the significance at once and appreciated it.

I have known Keith Macpherson on the periphery as an interested person. I had him as a yoga instructor although we had not been formally introduced. I had seen him perform with his group, Keith and Renée. Further to that, I had, as many Canadians, seen him perform on Canadian Idol but as a spectator watching TV from my living room. As well, Keith and I are both teachers with a Bachelor of Education degree.

What I find interesting about Keith is how he is able to meld his singing career, yoga and spiritual quest search altogether. He highlights that Wayne Dyer was a mentor with whom he had studied with many times in Hawaii. For me, I had been introduced to Wayne Dyer’s first book “Your Erroneous Zones” which I read in the 1970s as an avid and interested teenager. At that time Wayne was more into the psychological aspects of life and not onto the spiritual aspects quite yet. This self-help book was on the New York Bestsellers List for 64 weeks and sold over 35 million copies. If Louise Hay and Shakti Gawain are the grandmothers of spirituality, then Wayne Dyer is the grandfather of spirituality. His influence is and has been immense.

To have been in the presence of this incredibly, influential man such as Keith Macpherson has had the opportunity to learn, would have been so profound and there is evidence of this affect and effect in his book.

Keith’s book, “Making Sense of Mindfulness” bridges the information between many thought leaders that are promoted and published by Hay House. As a person, who has reviewed many spiritual and self-help books, many of which are from Hay House authors, I find Keith has found a good way to combine and glean out for you, a combined knowledge of what are the essential kernels of truth from many of these same authors. In effect, you are getting the most important aspects of spirituality found in this book.

I think one of the most important pieces of this book is the section that deals with those of us, which is most of us, who do not deal with our emotions. It is kind of a culturally learned behaviour and expectation that we do not expose and relate positively to our feelings and stuff them down into a cellular level in our bodies which causes us, as Louise Hay would say, dis-ease. It is important to acknowledge and release that which we refuse to look at in order to move on.

Keith shows you a number of mindfulness techniques. I have previously reviewed mindfulness books in the past and have also taken mindfulness classes through a variety of places having worked in Social Services and Education. He is able to highlight and delve into what is important to know and practice in your daily and moment to moment life.

I would have loved to have met and known Wayne Dyer, but with Keith Macpherson, you get the next best thing. Further, I have also taken Keith’s Mindfulness course online. He reviews 5 principles of mindfulness with online videos, meditations and exercises. You can find out about it and other valuable material at his website:https://www.keithmacpherson.ca

I would like to start to wrap up by saying that I think there is a beauty in the way Keith writes that I believe he gets from his musical background in that some quotes and passages were lyrical and musical in presentation. I felt as if he said certain things in a very meaningful and poetic way that comes from a person who has the ability to capture life by writing lyrics into songs along with melodies. The passages are melodic.

Finally, I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 and I believe that if you are stressed in any way and are not sure how to deal with it, this book is for you. Keith combines all his experience as a yoga instructor, student of Wayne Dyer and also a life coach with knowledge and actual practice with valuable insights. He offers courses, personal coaching, leadership coaching, online yoga and now offers an online community called “Mindful Tribe.”

World Tiger

World Tiger – Digital Art and Photography by Mary Mikawoz
Read Description & Click Link For More!

This is a Mixed Media creation of imagery including a Tiger, Whirlpool Galaxy and Cyclones on Earth. Together they form an incredible imagery of the magnificence of the world including the majestic tiger.

Personally, I love the combination of imagery as it is magnificent, balanced and takes you to another world of perception.

Tiger photograph was taken by me at the Phoenix Zoo in Arizona, USA.

Whirlpool Galaxy from NASA image – “The image from NASA Hubble Telescope shows spiral arms and dust clouds in the nearby Whirlpool galaxy. Visible starlight and light from the emission of glowing hydrogen is seen, which is associated with the most luminous young stars in the spiral arms.”

Planet Earth was also taken by NASA.

Hope you like the creation.

My Hillside

My Hillside

I call this “My Hillside” because when I think of something in between a meadow and a mountain, I think of hills.

For me this is kind of my stage between resting in a beautiful flowered meadow and very tall mountain I have to climb. I feel as if I am in the in between status of resting and going for the big goal. I am not quite resting but am acclimating to increasing my energies and heading up the trek of another mountain.

There is rich earth from the tones of brown hues and beautiful luscious green for grass and crops to grow. Even though the blue could be water, it is beginnings and growth of a developing mountain.

This was once a drawing I drew with coloured pens and I expanded upon it in the computer. I have added a beautiful sunrise because it is the dawning of a new day or a new chapter in my book of life. After having met my goal of posting one image a day for every day of last year, I have taken a little break and am now ready to proceed with new ambitions.

Mother Mary

Mother Mary

I found this pencil sketch in my drawing books. I thought I had drawn it exactly a year ago today and I thought how fortunate and appropriate. It is actually anabstract sketch of Mother Mary that I did 11 years ago in 2009. I have scanned into the computer and put some colouring to it.

Today, being Christmas Eve, I think it is important to not only be cherishing the birth of Christ but also give much recognition to Mary. It is a time of celebration.

I have Mary with a huge aura as she is an enlightened being. She is the mother of Jesus Christ. She was visited by Archangel Gabriel to tell of her that she would be the mother of Jesus. According to Luke 1:26-38 “Don’t be afraid, Mary. You have found favour with God. 31 You will become pregnant, give birth to a son.”

According to Dictionary’s website, “Mary is revered for her humility and motherly love. … She is honoured by all Christians, but particularly by Roman Catholics, who believe strongly in her mercy and her power to intercede with God. The Roman Catholic Church also teaches the doctrine of Mary’sImmaculate Conception.”

Merry Christmas!

Sundogs Over Substation

Sundogs Over Substation

I took this photograph this afternoon near Gimli, Manitoba over the substation. The sun is fairly low in the sky as it is winter time. The Sundogs on either side of the sun indicate that it is cold outside or that it will be. Both are true in this case. With temperatures in the minus 20 degrees Celsius range, or minus 4 Fahrenheit, you know it is cold.

Here is the current forecast from Environment Canada, “A bitterly cold north wind will bring extreme wind chills of minus 40 to much of southern Manitoba overnight and into Thursday morning.”

I like the brilliant star effect around the sun and the way the Sundogs are like little rainbow arcs around at the sun’s sides.

Wandering Dude

Wandering Dude

I spent the very last day possible at the Conservatory at Assiniboine Park. I literally stayed until they closed up not only for the day but also the life of the conservatory to the public. Why? Because I have very fond memories from many years of visiting when we or I used to go there and enjoy the lush trees, plants and flowers. I would particularly go in winter time to get a break from the white, blustery snow and see beautiful greenery in the warm and humid environment.

Some of my fondest photographs are of my immediate and extended family, some of whom, are no longer with us in physical form, and they graced their presence on this Earth by being in the conservatory. Back in the day, there were black and white photographs that were developed with film and you had to wait a very long period of time for them to be developed in the lab before seeing what you had accomplished with your camera.

This is a photograph I took of a “Wandering Dude” or Tradescantia zebrina or Inch Plant amongst the brick work. It is a houseplant that has trailing vines and is often used in hanging baskets.

Fleurs Blanches

Fleurs Blanches

These are beautiful white flowers or Fleurs Blanches found in the old Conservatory Building at Assiniboine Park. The building is no longer there and has been demolished. I hope the plants found a good new home.

This photograph has Asiatic Lilies and Arum Lilies being showcased. They are exquisite in their elegance and perfection.  They are romantic.

They were situated in a spot that many people would walk by and not even notice them but they definitely caught my eye. The Asiatic Lilies look as if there are multiple trumpets sounding off in all the directions.

Luscious Growth

Luscious Growth

This is the kind of luscious forest growth I like. The older trees have character, texture and colour while the new plant life is coming up around them to live, grow and prosper.

I like the symmetry of this photograph I took. Although it is kind of off the center aspect ratio, there is balance as the trees and plants offset one another.

This is an image from the West Coast in Vancouver, British Columbia where the forests have incredible dimensions. They are a lush green in sight and have a musky type of smell in the undergrowth of the forests.

According to the Vancouver website, “Vancouver has at least 30 different kinds of street trees, of all shapes and sizes, ranging from giant sequoiadendron, elm, maple, chestnut, oak and liriodendron to robinia, ash, hawthorn, birch, linden, beech and hornbeam.”
