Book: “The Soul Purpose Method: Discover Your Unique Calling, Reawaken to Your True Self, and Co-create the Inspired Life You Were Meant to Live,” Licia Rester and Kir Souder, Kynosura Publishing and Paper Raven Books, 2019

This book starts off with three major sections: Intention, Liberation and and Co-Creation. Within these sections, are more chapters with lots of good information.

Rester and Souder outline that you should be doing that which makes you come alive and to do that with your life – not some pre-fabricated need of society or the world although that might be what you end up doing. They believe that once you combine intention, liberation and co-creation, you get your soul’s purpose. That is the formula.

Further to that, they believe that the summit is inside of you to be discovered and not in someplace outside of yourself. You already have all the equipment needed to get there. As Steve Jobs says, “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what your truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” Licia and Kir refer to your soul’s purpose as a “Northern Intention.”

Licia and Kir go through 7 myths regarding soul purpose.

They are:

  1. I don’t have a purpose.
  2. I have to find or figure out my purpose.
  3. I don’t have enough money, time and/or opportunities to pursue my purpose.
  4. I’m not sure the purpose I’ve identified is my real purpose.
  5. I’m not “good” enough (confident, patient, focused, disciplined, skilled, smart, motivated, or energetic enough) to pursue my purpose.
  6. I have too many other responsibilities, obligations and priorities.
  7. I can’t let down or alienate people in my life.

Further on when dealing with issues surrounding fear, the authors use a quote from Albert Einstein. It reads, “The intuitive mind is a scared gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

Their own quote is valid, “What we intend, what we believe, what we choose, and what we act on will create the story of our lives.” That is, indeed, a profound statement.

Finally, the authors ask you to co-create with the Universe or Higher Power or God or Spirit. Paraphrased, they ask you to continue towards service in learning and growing in awareness of who you truly are and in manifesting your goals and dreams in alignment with the highest good of everyone involved.

Rester and Souder indicate that “Wisdom, inspiration and guidance can come at any time, in any form.”

After you have developed your “Northern Intention,” you develop your “Soul Purpose Vision” and then finally you create “Your Soul Purpose Action Plan.” They outline 5 steps in creating effective actions steps.

The biggest take-away from this book is something I know from many of my spiritual practices from books, videos and practices and that is when you are asking for guidance from the divine, you ask, “This or something better for the highest good of all concerned.”

The acorn has the information and drive to become the majestic oak tree and the caterpillar has what it takes to become a butterfly. It is already in them.

I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 so basically a 5 out of 5 and find that it is both a motivational and inspirational book with many insights.

Be Amazing

Be Amazing

Book: “Be Amazing: Discover Your Purpose, Conquer Your Fears, and Fulfill Your Potential,” Paul S. Boynton, Skyhorse Publishing, 2020

“Be Amazing” was an inspirational concept and experience that Paul S. Boynton received after visiting and receiving outstanding service at a restaurant. From there, he goes on to explain that giving your all is necessary in your endeavours. He writes, “It starts with a desire to be the best we can be in a specific area, followed by a decision to actually make it happen.” That is the essence of the book as Paul outlines a number of other people and situations that were outstanding in his opinion.

He outlines six points for Amazing Qualities. One of the quotes that he writes that I like is when you are doing that one special thing, you don’t have to be the best and as a Zen saying goes, “Flowers don’t compare themselves to other flowers, they just bloom.” That is a very encouraging thought and causes some self-reflection.

Mr. Boynton goes on to say that people know when people are being authentic and when they are with the “real deal.” People can recognize a disingenuous smile and reaction.

He gives out some steps on being amazing. They are as follows:

  1. Find your “Spirit Blueprint”
  2. Making a decision
  3. Discover what amazing will look like
  4. Making it happen

He writes his book from a question and answer process. This is how he engages the reader. I understand why Paul does this although I am not sure I like this process. I would prefer he just wrote the book in a straight-forward manner with the assumption that the reader has had those questions and he would answer them without indicating each time what the question was or is.

I like how the end finishes with a quote such as: “Remember, every book began with a single sentence. And every garden started with just a few seeds.”

This book was rather short. I would have preferred a longer version with more stories and examples of excellence.

For an inspirational short read, I give this book a 3.75 out of 5.

Death and Dying

Book: “What the Dead Are Dying to Teach Us: Lessons Learned From the Afterlife,” by Claire Broad, Watkins Publishing, 2019.

Claire Broad tries hard and for that I have to give her some credit. She has written a basic book about mediumship and what the dead are trying to teach us. It is a good beginner introduction but if you are aware of anything about what decease spirits are saying, it is repetitive from other sources. If you watch Long Island Medium, Mama Medium, Mom’s a Medium or have seen John Edward, Colette Baron-Reid, John Holland, James Van Praagh you should be aware of the major points spiritual people are making.

I found myself becoming quite busy and so had to leave the book mainly read but not entirely. It was a mistake because I was not “called” back to the book. I eventually came back to it to finish it off and give it a proper reading. I am sorry to say but much of what has been said in this book has been said by many others beforehand.

Here are the seven main points. “You are spirit or conscious awareness. Death is an illusion because consciousness is not confined. You are never alone. You can rise above fear. Love never dies as your life has purpose. Ask and it will be given. And nobody dies alone.”

To be fair, I went over my notes and I found that I liked Claire’s Call to Action sections.

To conclude, I would have to say that if you are dealing with death or are curious about the afterlife, this is a good introductory book. I give this book 3.5 stars out of 5. If you interested in life between lives, I would recommend the hypnotic work of Dr. Michael Newton of the Newton Institute.

This book is so short that I read it in one evening which is both good and bad.

I feel as if its essence has been distilled into the short portion of this book. This means you don’t have to read a 300 page book that repeats its points in various ways. However, I find that Dr. Leonid Altshuler is an interesting person and as a psychiatrist, he would have some interesting things to say about his methodology and practice with his patients.

Perhaps, those with mental health issues are not so far or different from being psychic or spiritually connected in ways that the average person is not.

Dr. Altshuler reviews his process for achieving connection to the Akashic Records, the energetic force of all information in the past, present and future. If you follow along, you may be able to accomplish the same.

I just completed reading the book. I found it fascinating. I always love stories of past-life reincarnations. It is amazing to find who is searching and for what information. Often, we search for why certain people are in our lives or not. We search for our meaning and purpose of life which is often based on what we have done in previous lifetimes. Personally, I believe that those who are prodigies at a young age are simply focussing in on gifts and personal talents they had in previous lifetimes.

Bryn Blankinship worked with Dr. Michael Newton who pioneered much of this work of life after life and in between lives. His books “Journeys of Souls”and “Destiny of Souls” was written more in a dialogue way as it was recorded. It is a conversation that goes back and forth between the person doing the hypnosis and the one who is under. I, for this reason, expected Bryn Blankinship’s books to be of a similar format but it is not. Bryn writes as if it were a story. I am not sure which method is better as both ways have merit.

I thought I found a discrepancy in the book as there is a client who has had two lifetimes overlapping one another. I thought “Ah ha, it is wrong” but I have since learned while reading on that there is such a thing as parallel lives where a soul splits into dual lives at once. It is hard to do and takes a lot of energy and is usually done only by advanced souls.
I found this book an easy and interesting read. What one does in between lives is fascinating. To me, it is as if you go to Heaven and deal with your Soul Council. It may not be “Heaven” but it is a place of white lights, positive energy and goodness. All one has to do there is to think the thought and the message is automatically transferred without the need for speech.

People will meet their Spirit Guides who have been with them in many previous lifetimes. They have been there to guide you in your daily life here and now. The person who has died needs to deal with the Soul Advisory Council. This consists of wise beings who have not incarnated and are able to see the big picture as we deal with each and every lifetime.

There is also a healing area where people/souls go to reintegrate being back to a soul that is functional and back to normal. Negative energies are taken away and healed.

There are no accidents. People are where they need to be. If you are reading this book review, it is not an act of coincidence but one of synchronicity.

I recommend this book as a good basis to learn about reincarnation and past-life regressions.  There are also some helpful exercises in the book.

Book: “Living Forever Young: The 10 Secrets to Optimal Strength, Energy and Vitality” by Skip Archimedes, Watkins Publishing, 256 pages.

Right away when you learn about the author Skip, you have to be amazed. He was a gymnast but had an accident and broke his back. He was told by doctors and specialists that he would never walk again. Within 18 months, he was back on his feet and winning a championship, the English Sports Acrobatics Championship. He has helped change many people including his mother who walks her dog and swims a 100 lengths every day. What is also very important to note is that the forward was written by David “Avocado” Wolfe who is well known in the natural health industry.

The ten main chapters of the book are:Breathe, Move, Nourish, Rest, Love, Shine, Believe, Learn, Commit and Live. This book is not an exercise or nutrition book but more of a life-enhancement book. It is important to have an alkaline body – not one based on acid.

With the first element breathing, it is important to breathe deeply with the exhale longer than the inhale. Interestingly, breathing deals with 70% of toxins. Breathing during exercise or while outdoors is important. Try to exercise for 30 to 45 minutes of good breathing. The second element, movement is important to your body and Skip offers up his Mom as an example. At 69, she had physical troubles, then she went on one of Skip’s retreat and lost 28 pounds and soon afterwards took up swimming and walking her new dog. At 74, she is in great shape and is active. Try aerobic, anaerobic exercise and yoga. The important thing to do is to find an activity that you enjoy.

Did you know that jogging, skipping, circuit training and rebounding can stimulate bone growth and reduce the risk of osteoporosis, especially in women?

With nourishment, the third element, it is important to drink 2 litres of water a day. Skip is a vegan but indicates this is an individual choice. He does suggest a plant-based diet is best. Skip suggest juicing and making smoothies from scratch so that you know what goes in them. He has a number of Morning Green Juices to start his day before breakfast. Superfoods such as wheatgrass, barley, chlorella, spirulina, hemp protein, chia, and cacao add to your smoothies and boosts your nutritional intake. Eating a raw salad helps too. Fruits and vegetables are alkaline foods which are good for dealing with you pH levels. If you are going vegetarian, there should be enough protein in a diet filled with fruit, vegetables, nuts, beans, pulses, seeds and grains.

The fourth element is rest or regularly scheduled sleep which is important to the body. A change is as good as a rest such as a change in routine or small vacation. A meditation or guided visualization is a good option for changing a mood.

Love is the fifth element. As Lucille Ball said “Love yourself first and everything falls in place.” It is important to love yourself first and foremost before loving others. Esther Hicks says that what you give out is what comes back to you whether it is negative or positive energy. Consider also how love will imprint your DNA to affect future generations in your family.

The sixth element is sunshine both in terms of vitamin D requirements and also a metaphor for your internal sunshine – of light emanating from inside of you out. There is, after all, no life without sunlight. You should be exposing 40% of your skin 20 minutes daily. Rats had more serotonin when exposed to more natural sunlight which deals with depression.

The seventh element is believe so that you can live an authentic, valuable and rewarding life. It is important to find your purpose and passion and combine the two if possible. For this to happen, you need self-belief and a lack of doubt. As Confucius said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

The eighth element is to learn that stimulating your mind is also nourishing your body. Likewise in a similar fashion, Plato emphasized exercises as being important for the mind.

The ninth element is commitment and being able to visualize the end goal that you desire. It is your beliefs, passions and purpose that define who you are. It is important to have thankfulness and a positive attitude in reaching one’s goals.

The final and tenth element is to live. You have your inner world of body and mind and now you need to deal with the outer environment that you physically live in. Your spirit is vitally important. For internally, you should do a detoxification, such as a 3 day juice fast of fruits and vegetables (5 pints or 2.5 litres). Failures are only lessons so continue on your way with trying everything from A to Z.

These in a nut shell are the ten elements to a successful life. This was a good read and I recommend it to be people would like to be encouraged.

Book: “The Hidden Secrets of Water: Discovering the powers of the magical molecule of life,” by Paolo Consigli, MD

I feel as if I am reading the author’s Ph.D dissertation. It is extensive and long on such a subject as water. It covers nearly every possible angle and objective. It is interesting to read such an extensive account of water. There are many things one does not think of.

The book covers chaos theory and string theory. It covers quantum theory to ancient Chinese medicine to Ayurvedic philosophies and systems. It covers the fact that the Earth as well as the body is 70% water. It covers fractals and other patterns. It covers how water is related to the Aquatic Ape – possibly a predecessor to human beings in the past. It covers consciousness and how it is found in all of the body and not just the brain of the person even though 80% of the brain is made of water.

Here is an interesting quote from Felix Franks: “Without water, it is all chemistry. Add water and you get biology.” There is much more information regarding water and DNA and other biological functions available in this book.

It continues to discuss Masaru Emoto and his photography of water at minus 20 degrees celsius. Depending upon the source of the water whether clean or polluted determines if beautiful crystals appear. As well, even simply writing a positive word on a paper beside the water or playing nice orchestral music determines a beautiful crystal as opposed to violent, negative words and jarring music. It is as if the water has a conscious soul. As we are 70% water ourselves, Emoto is convinced our bodies go through the same reaction to positive and negative energy and so the mind-body connection is made or psychophysical health is made.

Today’s physicists see the world as composed of “minuscule vibratory entities that resemble strings which augment the complexity of information, and of probable events that mutate and evolve uninterruptedly.”

Further “Intelligence needs experience in order to become wisdom. And wisdom needs the word in order to be transmitted.”

Lao Tze teaches: “It is a simple prescription for those who feel lost, without any purpose in life, drowned by existential doubt: establish a relationship with water.” It is soft yet can go through something hard like rock. It is fluid. It is all encompassing. It is organic and yet inorganic. It is unitary in nature. It is one.

Water is incredible. Water is used to heal the body both internally and externally. The Appendix covers this topic at length. Thassolotherapy is the use of sea water for healing. It is a good book and well thought out. It is, like I said before, extensive. I enjoyed it but am glad I have completed this nearly 400 page book.

Suffering?

Book: “You Were Not Born to Suffer: Love Yourself Back to Inner Peace, Health, Happiness & Fulfillment” by Blake D. Bauer

This book is extensive. I took the maximum time to read this book before it left my computer due to time restrictions. The practical questions are worth their weight in gold. They are very in depth and inquisitive. They make you really wonder about your past and how it has affected your current status in life. I particularly liked the letters written from your current age to your 5 year old, 10 year old, 15 year old and 20 year old stage and so forth. It continues to your current stage of development. In exchange, you also write from a younger age to the current age a letter. It is very informative what comes out of your mind.

The beginning is good but is indicated as an introduction. It should not be that as it is already an intimate part of the book. It should have been chapter 1 and continued onward.

Blake write about the butterfly scenario. I love this story because it says so much. A butterfly was trying to get out of its cocoon and a person thinking they would be kind in helping it out cut it out of its cocoon. Not realizing that blood runs to its wings and that the butterfly comes out exactly when it is strong enough and ready enough to come out. The person did not help the butterfly but hindered the life path of the butterfly. The butterfly was bloated and could not fly. That is with us people. We need to deal with the difficulties to deal with the good things afterwards. It builds strength.

Blake indicates that we become depressed or unwell because we have not learned to express our emotions. We need to remain healthy and happy throughout our lives but for this to happen, we need to be aware of how we are feeling and able to bring out the good and the bad. We need to be authentic to ourselves.

In fact, no one is a bad person for wanting an authentic life. It is simply a desire that each human being has and should have. If we are not reaching our potential it is because we don’t know how to meet our needs. We don’t even know how to ask for what we want or need.

Our egos are not wrong. If we do make our egos wrong, we effect our psyches in a negative way.

According to Buddha, it is not to live in the past or the future but it in the present moment that counts and makes all the difference. There are many good quotes from many good sources throughout the book. I also liked the affirmations that are included after the chapters.

We do need to realize that negative experiences from the past were there to teach us a lesson for leading towards our true purpose. “Everything is exactly as it is supposed to be.”

With that, I will close my review and recommend this book for anyone who is suffering. Read the book and enjoy the insights. Take the time to do the questions as they bring much insight that you would otherwise would get from a counsellor but this way you can do it on your own. Best of luck.

Book: “Quantum Love: Use Your Body’s Atomic Energy to Create the Relationship You Desire” by Laura Berman

This is an extensive book dealing with not only quantum love but how better to live your life. The author was taking care of her body and soul or so she thought. However, a year after losing her mother to cancer, Laura Berman developed breast cancer in the same breast as her mother had. She was devastated and went into a total alternate transformation.

She has come to realize that energy is everywhere. Energy is within the chair you are sitting on, the air you breathe and within the relationship you have with your spouse or partner. In fact, there is such a connection between people that Laura no longer feels it is necessary to counsel with both partners being present in the room. Affecting one person, affects the other. If one makes changes, the other has to change as well.

She looks at better food and green smoothies to start the day. Warm lemon water is the start before that cup of coffee you may need and like to have. Breathing is another important thing that you develop in yoga and other disciplines. One is the 4-7-8 breath where you inhale for 4, hold for 7 and exhale for 8 seconds. The other breathing technique is the square technique where you breathe for 4 imagine a top of a square, hold for 4 seconds going down the side of the square, then exhale for 4 seconds third side of the square and finally 4 seconds to hold on the final side of the square. Once you get good at it, you can add affirmations to the square. Finally, there is the bellows breathing effect. You breathe in rapidly as if you are fanning an actual fireplace. You breathe in and out in quick succession, making a sort-of panting noise through your nose.

Laura says it is important to have a good self-image of what your body is capable of. When you are critical of every pound and wrinkle, you are decreasing your energetic level. That is no way to keep your energy at a high level of quantum love.

Ms. Berman says we need to listen to our bodies to give it what it needs. Our emotions carry energy and have weight to them. You can get them stuck in the body system as indicated by blocked chakras. You need to experience emotions to go through them. After a good cry, you feel lighter because the energy has passed, for example.

There are a few frustrating things about the book in that Laura uses abbreviations that she has made up. They do not make sense and are not easy to remember. I find myself just skipping over those parts as being misunderstandings. So, as a result, I recommend having a piece of paper where you can jot down the abbreviations so you are not as lost as I was. Second, she references her website quite a few times but it is not specific in the website so you do not know where to go. I think some effort should have been made to point the audience into the right direction instead of having to explore the website. Third, I would almost say the book is too long and tries to cover too much information, other than the back end of the book is amongst the book. It has tools and techniques on how to improve your sexual relationship. It is said that Quantum Sex is Quantum Love and vice versa.

I would recommend this book for couples whether heterosexual or homosexual in orientation. It helps to bridge the gap of sexual experiences. It is also a very personal story or Dr. Laura Berman’s struggle with her breast cancer. Enjoy!
