Vimy Ridge 4

Vimy Ridge 4rev

I love the huge towers against an interesting sky.

Vimy Ridge 4

Vimy Ridge is a famous monument in France. It is dedicated to Canadians as they were able to take ground that was kept by the Germans in World War I. It was thought to be impenetrable and unbeatable and yet the Canadians did it. It was part of the Battle of Arras in the Pas-de-Calais Region of France. This monument is 30 meters high and was designed by Walter Seymour Allward. It was unveiled in 1936 by King Edward the VIII. It was restored in 2007. Did you know that when you are on those grounds, you are back in Canada? I love this series of photos that I took because to me, it means a great deal and I honour those soldiers who fought and lost their lives for our freedoms.

Flower Boat

This is a photograph of a lonely boat who has been forgotten in time. It is surrounded by nature as the flowers pop up all around. I think it is interesting and beautiful how nature always comes back. It was taken at Little Deer in Manitoba, Canada.

Leaving a Legacy

Legacy

Book: “Leave a Legacy that Counts: Create One at Any Age,” Terrie Davoll Hudson, BookLogix, 2019.

Book Review by Mary Mikawoz

Book available July 26, 2019

Terrie Davoll Hudson has written a short, interesting book about leaving a legacy behind not at some future date when you are facing death but now. It is important to measure what you achieve and the impact you have on your family, community and the world.

The thing is that you leave a legacy behind anyway based on your impact on other people, your environment, your world and the way you live, the way you speak and the actions you take. The question, then is, do you want to leave a legacy behind by default or by design?

Elements of a legacy that count include reputation, actions repeated over time, and character. A good legacy is fuelled by your aspirations, attitude, truthfulness and authenticity.”

Your character is your essential nature that is formed over time or as Terrie says “your virtual business card” which you carry with you every day of your life.

It is most important to be intentional as you pursue your goals and pursuit of your legacy. “You are the author and illustrator of your life.” Your legacy counts so work on it today.

I recommend this book as an inspirational reading. I also recommend you check out her website – https://terriehudson.com.

I give the book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Sea Going

Mikawoz Sea Going

It is an overcast day in the Vancouver Harbour where freighters line up and a fishing boat is being followed by many seagulls and sea birds looking for their next feed. According to Wikipedia, “Informally known as “box boats,” they carry the majority of the world’s dry cargo. Most container ships are propelled by diesel engines, and have crews of between 10 and 30 people.”

It is a tranquil picture although there is much going on in it.

Red Wheels

Red Wheels

I was on the West Coast when I came across these two red wheels up against the fence line. I love the circular wheels being so red and bright. I like the leaves on the ground as it was a good fall day and I love the way the angles work.

Seagulls Aloft

I like this image of five seagulls enjoying the west cost of British Columbia, Canada. “Gulls or seagulls are seabirds of the family Laridae in the suborder Lari. They are most closely related to the terns (family Sternidae) and only distantly related to auks, skimmers, and more distantly to the waders.”

Crocodile

This is a very close-up of a crocodile. It is very scary looking especially under the glowing lights. “Crocodiles (subfamily Crocodylinae) or true crocodiles are large semiaquatic reptiles that live throughout the tropics in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia.” Wikipedia

West Coast Islands

This is a picture of some islands off of the West Coast of Vancouver just north on the way to Squamish and Whistler, BC, Canada. It is rather ominous looking with the clouds.

I love the symmetry of the water and the sky.
