Piercing Brown Eyes

Piercing Brown Eyes

I absolutely love it when I come across eagles and especially Bald Eagles. They are such a joy to watch soaring across the skies and landing on tree tops every so elegantly.

They are absolutely magnificent creatures with such amazing abilities to fly up amongst the drafts of air and wind.

This eagle was well camouflaged in amongst the tree branches but I found its piercing brown eyes checking me out at a distance and me at him. It is no wonder that they are symbols for so many nations and organizations, as they are powerful and kings of their own domain soaring ever so higher into the upper realms of the atmosphere.

Hawk on Post

Mikawoz Hawk on Post

Hawk on Post

Whether you are going north, south, east or west in the prairies, you will see an hawk on a post of a farmer’s field. It is actually a hard picture to get because as you slow down in your car, the hawk takes off.

Interesting information from Wikipedia include, “Hawks, like most birds, are tetrachromats having four types of colour receptors in the eye. These give hawks the ability to perceive not only the visible range but also ultraviolet light. Other adaptations allow for the detection of polarized light or magnetic fields.”

Trois Aigles

Mikawoz Trois Aigles

Trois Aigles

These are three eagles flying high up in the sky. Actually, only two were originally in the photograph but I decided to add the third one as they were taken the same day within minutes of each other. They are spectacular raptors. All three are Bald Eagles but the centre one is actually an immature Bald Eagle which surprisingly looks like a Golden Eagle.

According to http://www.pure-spirit.com, “Eagle conveys the powers and messages of the spirit; it is man’s connection to the divine because it flies higher than any other bird. The eagle brings the message of renewed life because it is associated with the east winds – the direction of spring, dawn and rebirth.”

Golden Eye

Golden Eye

According to Wikipedia, “The golden eagle is one of the best-known birds of prey in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the most widely distributed species of eagle. Like all eagles, it belongs to the family Accipitridae. These birds are dark brown, with lighter golden-brown plumage on their napes.”

This is a photograph I took of a Golden Eagle in flight overhead. It was hard to be steady enough to take the photograph.

This is a photograph of an Bald Eagle perched on a tree at night time. I manipulated it so that it had a red background. It is a nice silhouette.

Here is a lone Bald Eagle perched on a tree. I took this photograph just before he launched. I think it is a good enough photo as it is.

Full Bald Eagle

This is a full-bodied photograph of a Bald Eagle that I took in the Interlake area of Manitoba, Canada. It is majestic and stunning. It is a bird prey often found near bodies of water for food supply and old forest growths for nesting.

This is a photograph I took in the Interlake area of Manitoba, Canada. I would like to thank David Elliott Atwell for driving me around and letting me take such great photographs. Without him, these beautiful eagles would not be captured with their striking eyes, golden beaks and white heads.

Solo Bald Eagle

This is one of the best photos I have of a solo Bald Eagle.  The background was just perfect.  I also like the way the plumage is gently flying in the air.  Its beak is perfect for what he needs to do.  The eye is piercing.  Love this photo and the detail.

Did you know that both sexes of bald eagles have the same colouring for plumage?  The difference is that the female is actually a bit larger.  Eagles have excellent eyesight.  “They have two foveae or centers of focus, that allow the birds to see both forward and to the side at the same time.”
