Home City

Home City

This is the beautiful entrance way to the City of Winnipeg building across from the main Council Chambers. It is the public offices of my Home City. I was born in a very cold land, moved to several cities in Canada as an adult but chose to return to where community is key and where friendships are diametrically opposed to the frosty winter.

This photograph of the curved marble benches with the pretty tree, plants and flowers is in front of what is now known as the Susan A. Thompson Building. Susan was the first female Mayor of the City of Winnipeg at 510 Main Street. She was the 40th Mayor and served for two terms from 1992 to 1998.

Susan Ann Thompson writes in her website, “During the ceremony at City Hall, I expressed that this re-naming was to be done in the spirit of honouring ALL the women of Winnipeg and also to specifically honour and recognize the women leaders within the city government, politically and administratively who came before me; whom I served with; and for the women who will come after me.”
